My grandparents went back to Puerto Rico in the sixties, leaving behind their seven children in California. One by one we went to visit them on the Isla del Encanto. My grandfather took us to the mysterious, mystical mountain town of San Sabastian where he was born. It was there that I saw the shack on a hill, set back amongst the palm trees, an elderly woman sitting outside in an old play pen, happily basking in the sun. I was struck with fright at the incongruous image. Over time, the fright turned slowly into confusion, which confusion then turned to wonder as the years rolled along, which wonder has now turned to magic.
