The Color Of Law
40” x 60” Watercolor and acrylic on paper
2015
This is among my new Puerto Rico paintings, the home country of my parents and my spouse, a place I’ve always wanted to be more a part of. My recollections of early trips to Puerto Rico are bathed with memories haunting me throughout my life, of coquis, iguanas, and Santeria. My husband’s writings are the inspiration for this depiction of El Faro, its light revealing a lawyer running for safety, the coquis crying, the iguana still, the Bruja alert to my needs, blending into the lighthouse cliffs, disguised under color of law.
