La Madama Saflora
32” x 27 ¾” Watercolor and acrylic on paper
1996
I was given the madama doll, Salflora to me by my aunt. I am not a painter of still lives and yet Salflora beckoned to me. I painted her dress and broom and the rest of the elements gradually made their way into her environment such as violets, a teacup and tarot cards. Saflora sits silently on a drape the shape of Puerto Rico collecting and guarding dreams like treasures to store in the box she sits upon.
